Bring on 09 Baby. Bring It!

Yippy for 2009!

What I am thinking for this year might sound a bit broad, but if I apply it to the different areas of my life, then it's more specific.

BROADEN MY HORIZONS

That's it, you might ask?
Yep. That's it.

Think about it:

Workouts: Try new things, mix it up. I love running and yoga but I need to get back to lifting weights, back to kickboxing, back to spin classes. Expand my routine.

Health: There are several more things I can do to live a healthier life. Cut my drinking, do a master cleanse, etc, etc.

Friends: Pick up the phone and reconnect with old friends. Actually go visit them. Reach out to new friends, make an effort to get out of my hermit shell.

Dating: Uhm, yeah this will be the hard part for me this year. But it has to be done. I'm not going to get anywhere in this arena if I'm home having dinners with you-know-who all the time. I need to get out where there is an opportunity to actually meet someone I find interesting (no easy feat, my friends).

So there you have it.

Happy new year to all and to all a good night. Be safe and don't do anything I wouldn't do.

  1. I love the "reconnecting" with friends goal! That's been a big one for me this year....Thank You FaceBook! Never pass up an opportunity to tell someone how you feel about them, even if it's as simple as "everytime I'm with you I laugh" or perhaps "everytime I read your blog, I'm inspired"...because I am. Thanks for a great 08 POM!

  2. That's a great plan. I like the theme. I call myself a hermit all the time. I need to adopt that too! Happy '09!

  3. Ha, thanks for your comment - I guess it was half-assedness in the planning more than the execution.

By the way, thanks for sharing your blog with everyone. A friend of mine (ND, in fact) tipped me off to it a couple months ago, and I've loved following all the escapades.

Here's to kicking off 2009 with a bang - looking forward to reading about how this horizon broadening goes!

  7. Great Resolutions! Just a little tip from the goal guru (That's what I call myself)...Try and be more specific, and give yourself deadlines for when you want to do things by! It helps keep you accountable!

Have a great 2009! Can't wait to see what it holds!

  9. Sounds like a very good plan. I, too, have the "usual" goals I set every year, but this year, like you, reconnecting with old friends will be added to the list. Here's to a great 2009 for us all!

  13. i love the expansion plans. You want to set a real broad challenge? throw a sprint triathlon into the mix. they are quite fun.

and keep an open mind to people you find interesting. Some people might be more interesting the second time you talk to them. The south carolina version of that determines how many missing teeth you are willing to put up with.

btw, don't be afraid to venture to the east coast every now and again. You've got friends here too. Pick a destination race maybe.

Good luck, i'm really looking forward to seeing you go through the year.

  18. I think we can all learn a little lesson following your lead. Expanding horizons and embracing new things (or re-embracing the old) is probably one of the top 10 goals I've heard so far. Great approach and many happy wishes for 2009!

  20. I love your friends one - that's exactly what I'm trying to do and you just put it so well. However, watch out for the master cleanse one - I've heard those are actually not good for you and can be kind of dangerous.

    Happy New Year!
