Oh Wagon, Oh Wagon, I Have Fallen Off Thee

After my fantabulous run on Friday, I truly felt I "deserved" to celebrate a little. Unfortunately for me "a little" isn't in my vocabulary.

Friday I had a lovely Italian dinner with my best pal, where I did NOT skimp on the bread, nor the wine. Then we went back to her house where we polished off 2 more bottles of wine.

Saturday I did go to yoga in the morning, but I followed that up with an incredible BBQ with friends (thanks Dr. Dev), pomegranate martinis and, yep you guessed it - more wine. I also snuck in a chocolate chip cookie the size of my head.

Sunday a heavenly brunch with french toast (I always want to order french toast, but never do). Followed that with a few beers, then wine, then Mexican dinner and margaritas.

What the hell is wrong with me?
This eating & drinking frenzy is NOT going to get me to my "fighting weight." I am now calling my marathon goal weight my "fighting weight" because it sounds cooler. My fighting weight is 128. I stepped on the scale this morning to analyze the damage and it said 135. This is even AFTER my run this morning. WTF?

So it's "GAME ON" up in here.
Bring it.

You totally deserved to fall off the wagon. What's one weekend in the grand scheme of things. It's monday, time for fresh starts and getting back on the wagon!

So now that you posted this, you're accountable! We'll be asking how it's going!:)

Marcy said...

You'll be back to it in no time, chica! Bring it on!! ;-)

ok - there's something in the water. I'm magically up 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm not kidding. It's tragic and mysterious - because I didn't eat Mexican, BBQ, candy, chips, ice cream, or alcohol! I just stopped taking birth control. Mother F-er. I thought people gained weight when they went on it, not off!

Isn't it aggravating??!! I ran about 46 miles between two Weight Watchers weigh-ins, didn't overeat...AND STILL GAINED WEIGHT. I don't know WTF is going on but it's driving me crazy. How can I run over 40 miles in a week and GAIN weight?????

You had some great runs which you have worked hard for. A little celebration was in order. It is out of your system. Now you have 3 weeks left to refocus.

You are doing awesome.

E said...

Just put it all behind you and focus on your fighting weight from now on. :)

I bet after a few "good" days, the scale will be lots friendlier.

I want at least 5 more off myself when I head out to Portland. Stupid taper :-). I'm right there with you girl!

How much does lactic acids weigh?? I heard after a long run, your body holds onto fluids? Of course, it does sound like you had a rather decadent weekend. I'm sure you'll be back to your fighting weight in no time!!! (Maybe 3 days?? ;-)

Dear God, that all sounds divine. Truly. Glad you indulged a bit. It was just a weekend, and the poundage is mostly just carbs you'll be sweatin' out this week anyway.

But I'm with you - GAME ON! If anyone can do it, it's you... Ms. Endurance Athlete!

I don't know if you read some of the same blogs as I do, but this is TOTALLY GOING AROUND right now. It's like an epidemic of all my bloggity buds falling prey to temptation! As least we are all in this together. Everyone has admitting their slide, committed to change and is putting plans in place to kick ass! All for one, one for all, GO TEAM!!!

I've come to terms with a "weight range"... to me, the good food & wine are worth a lot more than freaking out about a couple of lbs.. As long as the lbs don't go over that mid to top end of the "range!"

You'll be right back on track, I'm sure...

And FYI - Your skinny weight is my skinny weight and you are SEVERAL inches taller than me :-)

I kinda run alongside the wagon most times. I barely hang on to the side of it.

Girl, I'm with you ~ you should check out this video I posted this week on measuring,.. amazing how all the "little" things add up. I'm telling you, for me, I hate it but now I'm in a big time strict "no going outside the lines" mission. You can do it, and so can I!! Let's make it happen girl!

i always feel like i "deserve" to indulge as well... maybe it's just the food (and wine) sitting in your stomach? after all, you did burn a crazy amount of calories on friday!

Chic Runner said...

Just the fact you can drink all that wine and get up and do yoga.. I give you mad props! :)

Frayed Laces said...

Thanks for the kind words---go get that fighting weight! You got it, girl!

Amy - the gazelle said...

no worries - you'll be back to fighting weight in no time. Every once in a while, a weekend like that is acceptable - probably even necessary to remind us why EVERY weekend isn't like that (anymore).

Heather said...

I bet the weight change was due to the booze. Lay off for a few days and you'll be back down. Maybe allow yourself ONE treat a day? Whenever I've been too strict with myself I feel entitled to a "reward" and then have a hard time controlling myself. If I let the reigns out a little and let myself have ONE treat a day then usually the bingies are kept at bay.

I too ate like a fiend and also gained a HUGE amount of weight!!! Not OK, not even a little in my case. You my friend, look terrific...

You inspired me yesterday. I kept thinking a I ran- this in only half of one of POMs runs - so suck it up and run. That got me through roughly eleven miles of hills and 40% grades - so thanks

PS. I love the Garmin more than any other gadge in the world

Alisa said...

you'll get to your fighting weight in no time. I was in Cali this weekend eating J's mom's lemon cheescake I'm prob up 20 lbs. A few indiscretions once in awhile is totally normal. A few miles and bikrams you'll be 128!

M*J*C said...

Girl, you know that at least 3 pounds is just water from all the salt and carbs! It will be off in no time! I'm worried with all my traveling coming up, it's super easy for me to gain 5-8 pounds when I'm "on the road" for work, I cant' drag another 5-8 lbs around for a tour of Washington DC for my marathon!!!

N.D. said...

You are doing awesome. 135 sounds way off, probably that time of the month. Take it easy on yourself and enjoy life!

Laurel said...

The more i read your blog, the more I realize we need to party together.

Maybe after marathon season is over though.

RunToTheFinish said...

Ok that's my goal weight too and I'm also right at 135... I'll be checkin in to see what you're doing so I can follow in your footsteps!!

I love how you "snuck in" a cookie the size of your head. :) It was probably more like the cookies at my house - they are the ones that do the sneaking, not me (haha.). :)

I think it is probably a good thing that I don't step on a scale. I don't want to know what those sneaky ones do to me! Though just thinking about it makes me want to be a bit more vigilant.

Marci said...

Its probably just salt or "cycle" water retention. You deserved to enjoy yourself

the Bag Lady said...

Well, dang, girl, everyone deserves a wild weekend once in awhile!
I have no doubt whatsoever that you will get rid of that little bit of extra poundage in no time.

Oh, and; wow, it all sounded really good!:)

that bring it?
I totally read it in jamie pressley's voice circa BRING IT ON.

consider it broughten,

Ouch! Sounds like you fell off and the wagon backed up over you. Sounds like a great weekend though. With weekends like that you may have to move up in weight class.

Missicat said...

I sooo hear you in this! Cannot count the times I have done the same thing - I just have to pick myself up, dust myself off, and move on! :-)

Jess said...

We're all allowed to cheat every once in a while and have a fun weekend with friends and enjoy all the food and alcohol we'd like.

I'm 100% sure you'll be back on track in no time!

Unknown said...

Good luck! You have the attitude to do what you need to do.

Charmaine said...

Yep, giving into temptation is what last weekend was all about.

Kiki said...

Temptation...I get that. Don't beat yourself, just get back on the horse and you'll be fine in no time!!! You are awesome.

Not sure of exactly when or where I'll be in SD, they are kind of keeping it a surprise, I'll let you know as soon as I know. Plus, I am making a vacay out of part of it....so I'll be around a little longer and have some more free time!!!

jen said...

Oh man, when you fall off the wagon you do it RIGHT! I love all those foods/drinks you listed. Good luck getting back on and great job on your recent running. Your 22 miler was absolutely blazing. :) I can't wait to spectate/volunteer at the Portland Marathon and cheer you on!

Maggs said...

You'll get there, don't stress about it (it will not help). Just get back on the wagon and ride.

Stuart said...

Saddle up and leave you woes behind you!

Laura said...

Now I feel guilty that I said you should drink a bottle of wine... at least I was so slow that you didn't intentionally follow it!
