Confession Time.
I am kind off a snob.
I have NO idea where this came from (most likely my dad's side). But my family is not wealthy, I don't have designer clothing and I am only moderately good looking. But the snob inside is there. She's always been there.
Case in point:
Picture a 3 year old P.O.M. hanging out with her grandmother. (This is my grams favorite story by the way.) Anyway Grams has to run some errands. First stop is K-Mart. POM looks up at her Grams with blue eyes bigger than her entire face and says, "Gamma, we don't like this store, do we?"
As I have "grown up" (ha, yea right) I have been through some hard times and I'm not as snobby as I used to be. I realize half that shit doesn't' even matter anymore. But every once in a while, that little snob within rears her ugly head.
Like today on my 12 miler. I'm thinkin' I'm pretty bad ass, hittin' the pavement with my fancy gear. Some douche-bag passes me. I look at his feet and immediately think "he's not really a runner with those shoes."
Then I look down.
And realized that I look like
and over-geared Punky Brewster on Steroids.
Spilts:
Mile 1: 9:27
Mile 2: 9:44
Mile 3: 10:00
Mile 4: 10:01
Mile 5: 10:08
Mile 6: 10:00
Mile 7: 9:54
Mile 8: 9:14
Mile 9: 9:39
Mile 10: 9:45
Mile 11: 9:13
Mile 12: 8:44
Total: 1:55:50 = 1334 calories

That sounds exactly like something I would say. Are we related?
Moderately good looking? That's something I would say about myself. Women - we're funny.
LOL i think about what i must have looked like running 4 months ago when i started, and now i think i know it all and i do the same thing to other people i see... must be a snob too :) only sometimes though.
great run!
I am waiting for the day when I can go out and do a 12 miler without thinking about it! You rock!!!
When I saw your song of the day, I read it as "Spencer & Heidi" instead of "Spencer & Hill" and thought I'd have enough fuel for my inner scorn furnace for DAYS. Then I reread it. I'm a dumbass. And also have snobbish tendencies. :)
You always make me laugh out loud!! Whatever you decide to "label" yourself, just know that it works for you;).
Making fun of other runners is one of the best training past times. What?
I'm sure one hasn't quite lived until they have been passed by an elderly man in keds.
No joke.
Great run girl - have a great weekend!
it is baffling to me how people can burn so many calories running when i am not.
congrats on the awesome run though... 12 miles... amazing!
I used to judge runners by their gear, but then I started seeing this this older guy all the time, who -- no matter the weather -- runs in a sweat shirt and work pants. He's either way more hardcore than me, or just bonkers. But I can tell he's faster than me, so I don't judge.
Ha! That is so funny! You know what, with splits like that you can run in whatever you want!
Nice 12 miler! And I am always eyeing other runners and their gear.
Sweet on the 12 miler chica!! I'm the queen of bad thoughts. I'm so going to hell LOL
You did good time on your 12 today. SWEET!
What a great run and a fantastic last mile !
Great run! Like Marcy, I too am going to hell for my evil thoughts. My snobbery has yet to extend to running though. I need to get some more miles on these legs first. :)
I think we all have a little bit of an inner snob in us.
Great job on the 12, nice splits.
Great 12 miler, amazing pace on the last mile!
I alternate between total running snob:
"On your LEFT!" (to self: pshht, nice shorts, slow ass)
and overly kind: "Good morning!" (to self: Aww, good for them!)
I'm weird.
Are you in my freakin' head?! I am always checking out and judging other runners (even the heavy sat gal who came in right in front of me at my last 5K) and think... Damn how did I become such a snob. Then I remembered my MIL gave me the "I'm a snob" club card when I married my husband! just kidding. I'm a saint. LOL Good job on those 12 miles!
With that 12 miler to me you have earned some snobbery rights.
Nice run for a snob. Way to kick it up at the end. Have a great weekend.
I think we all have a little bit of the snob inside of us.
At my last 15K, a scoffed to myself about a few people wearing cotton t-shirts. If they were "real runners" they would know that by mile 4 that cotton was a bad idea.
And I am sure at that exact moment, someone was crackin' on my bandanna or my personal champion chip or whatever...
I think it's human nature. It's all good!
I love your honesty!
Its all good. Seriously, just yesterday I was running and this super skinny barbie-esque girl was running in the opposite direction. She had hair down to her butt (mind you, not in a pony tail), cotton shorty shorts, and a skimpy tank. So while at first I felt all heffalump like in my flowy singlet and visor, I looked at her shoes as we crossed paths and as soon as I passed her, I let out a "pssshh, whatever"... outloud... and then laughed at my behavior. Who do I think I am?
Um - and since we're all going to hell, please bring your running shoes - we'll finally get to start a running group like so many of us have wanted to.
First of all. I have had those thoughts before. Especially when at the gym I like to check out what others are wearing, including their shoes. Sometimes, when a person is not wearing the regular workout attire and possibly wearing jeans or whatever, I think how rediculous they look... but then quickly congrats them (in my head) for getting to the gym! I too have an inner snob in me. Sometimes. I think it's a girl thing.
You're not alone. I tend to judge based on gear and stuff too.
Great run!!
But seriously...what kind of shoes WAS he wearing (See...I'm a snob too!)
That's cute:) I've become a total food snob... sighs.
"I'm thinkin' I'm pretty bad ass, hittin' the pavement with my fancy gear. Some douche-bag passes me."
Oh my see you say it or think it much nicer than i do!!! I'm more like F--K that, i'll show him what i've got! Then i run like a maniac and die! So, much for the F--K you!! :O)
Michelle
"over-geared Punky Brewster on Steroids." Priceless.
snobby? who can say.
made this woman laugh? FOR SURE.
I totally think those snarky thoughts at times as well....
MizFit
hahahahah! I'm a closet snob as well. Which, actually, is probably worse than a full-blown snob. At least they have the balls to be out in the open about it. :)
