Fanastic

I think I mentioned a while ago that my work is cutting my health care. Sign of the times, I guess. So I applied for private health care. Didn't think it would be a problem.
Until this morning.
I got this in my inbox:
Dear Jessica,
We regret to inform you that your application for health
insurance coverage has been declined. Blue Shield of California will contact
you directly to provide more information about their decision.
eHealthInsurance has not been informed why your application was
declined.
We understand this is not the result you had hoped for. If you don't have an employer-sponsored health insurance alternative available, here are some other options you may wish to consider:
Public Health Coverage and Assistance Programs. ......
Social Security and Medicare......

WHAT THE HELL????
Public Health Coverage or Medicare??
Are you kidding me? I am one of the healthiest people I know. How could I be declined insurance?

What is this world coming to?

OMG, what a mess. I'm sure it's nothing and easily fixable. Maybe? Hopefully?

Huh ? I'm interested to hear what they say when they contact you.

I have no idea why they wouldn't cover me. I guess I have to do something like Kiaser. Ger!!!

My roommate(25 years old) and marathon running buddy got denied for being on too many medications- birth control and pepcid ac!!!!! Our system is ridiculous

I'm sorry chica! This is really lame! Sometimes you can petition to get on the same coverage that state employees receive. Cali is working on health care reform (as are most places) but it is a little slow moving.

Wow, I can't believe your company is cutting health insurance!

Oh yeah...I tried to get private health insurance twice because the insurance my employer provides is so expensive. Denied both times. Last month was the most recent, and they told me that since I was treated for "bulemia" 4 years ago, they couldn't provide me with insurance. Yep. "bulemia". Supposedly the letter was written by an RN...an RN without spell check and no prior knowledge of how to spell bulimia. I burned the letter because I was so pissed.

Wow! This is why we need health care reform!

Jess said...

damn that's crazy. I hope it's some kind of mistake and something that's easy to fix!

Wow!! Hopefully when they contact you directly you get a good reason!!! (as in one you can contest!)

The same thing happened to me, because 7 years ago I hurt my back (all better with limited treatment) -- they'll refuse you if it's documented you ever a cold. I had to use a "health care agent" to get insurance, PITA, I wish you good luck . . .

I was denied private health insurance once because when I was 19, I was on anti-depressants. Nevermind that this was 8 years later! Asshats.

don't get me started on health insurance. socialized medicine now! have you ever seen Sicko? i don't usually care for michael more flix, but that one was scary good.

i still have company sponsored health care coverage, and my costs are still more than some people's salaries. pfffffft....

OH NO! I hope it was a mistake and gets figure out soon!

I was just thinking about this myself. I'm pretty sur I'm going to get denied come May since I've had so many "female issues". Grrr...

I am also one of the healthiest people I know... don't drink or smoke or any of that, vegetarian, hardly eat greasy crud. But if I were to apply for private health coverage, I would probably be denied because I have had a few tests come back with mild proteinuria (you can look it up if you're curious), which according to my sources is a red flag. Even though I was screened and cleared that I don't have anything wrong with me, sometimes these companies just take one weird thing like that and run with it.

Grr, that's a nuisance. Health care can be SO frustrating to deal with!

It's not, "what's this world coming too?" It's where's the US been for a long time. Ali's point is succinct and very true.

I'm wondering whether they found, in their research of your application that you're already covered???

Dude,

I keep paying my co-pay for dental from PI. If it is no longer in existance...someone should tell me, right?

Heck, you're as healthy as an OX. I'll insure you.

When you say A is gone...do you mean Amanda?

I'm too old to decode this conversation. I'm about to marry a black man or the King of Produce.

I need help.

Believe it or not, healthcare sucks for both ends of the doctor-patient relationship...it's very frutstrating to say the least.

Hope your problem is something fixable!

WTF? Hope this is just some error on their part. Doesn't sound right.

That's really, REALLY terrible. So sad that your work had to cut it, too. What's happening lately? Scary.

I once was denied insurance because both my mother and father had cancer. Reading all these reasons people were denied makes me seriously mad -- no one will want to get help for eating disorders or depression if it later comes back to haunt them.

Our health care systems needs to get cleaned up. I hope they can provide you with a better answer.

that's SCARY! esp since you are in such good health!!

I have been thankful for our health care system in Canada when I read cases like this.

Interesting. I'm tellin ya this whole insurance crapola has been the most stressful thing I've had to deal with in a while. Did you go to the blue cross site directly and try to get a quote (not through an intermediary site?). In NC BCBS was one of the only companies that let me get a direct quote without an agent. I'm thinking there was a mistake.

You need to forward that letter (and explanation of your low insurance risk) to your US congressman and Senator, as well as your state reps. You are the perfect example of why reform of healthcare should be first on everyone's priority list. Having worked in healthcare my entire adult life has taught me to HATE big insurance. Blue Cross calls all the shots and our country allows it. Whew, don't get me started....oh wait, I already did! :)

UGH... I HATE insurance companies! They are the DEVIL!!!!!!

That is just crazy. If you're denied, what's the chance of ANYONE getting Private Insurance Coverage?

I hope you get that worked out. Becuase that is just wrong!

They should at least give you an idea on why they declined you. That sucks! Hope you get some answers.
