Bigger and Better

I know you are all holding your breath for the big announcement.

Wait no more!

Here it is....

Right here...

I've signed up for my next marathon - marathon el numero dos.

The lucky city to host this monumental event is...

PORTLAND!

Reasons I/we selected Portland:
1. My two girlfriends (Kris and Mel) who ran with me last time are meeting there. It's kinda of a central city location for us all.
2. It's being held on Kristin's BirFday and therefore the entire race will be dedicated to her because she is the best friend a girl could want.
3. iPod Friendly
4. Brisk weather
5. Hot Single Men. (ok, I made this one up, but if I'm using the "secret" then maybe... just maybe...)

Things that stress me out:
1. I've never travelled to a race.
2. We don't have a hotel booked and they are really pricey - even for dumpy ones.
3. I will be training by myself. UNLESS I join some type of group - more on that later.
4. I don't have the support system (aka boyfriend) that I had during my last marathon.
x
I'm not even going to think about marathon training until June. Well, I probably think about it, but not really plan out my training. But I'm thinking of taking a more relaxed approach compared to last year. I think I over-trained and that was the cause of my hip problems. So, we'll see what I come up with.
x
Now, I know there are some very hip and cool blogger chicks from Oregon. So ladies... I'm open to some suggestions on fun places to go and see. I think we will go out drinking Thur night to celebrate my girl's bday and then somewhere to drink/recover on Sunday. Ideas??? If you're open to a meet up, let me know too.

ANYONE ELSE RUNNING PORTLAND????

First of all, I *heart* "Misery Business" by Paramore. Love it!

Secondly, Portland sounds awesome. I've never been there, but I hear it's cool, so I'm sure their marathon is the shit. Plus, it's awesome that they're iPod friendly (I mean, what is up with all the iPod-nazism with races these days? Twin Cities will ban your ass if you have headphones on).

Lastly, you do have a support system -- it's called US! Don't worry, chica, you will rock it!

How exciting for you! I traveled for both the Chicago and Disney marathons - for some reason, I find it more fun esecially when people are traveling with you. My family came to both so it made it an even bigger event.

A running group would be a great idea! Perhaps another opportunity for Hot Single Men ;)

Portland is the awesomest - and I've heard such good things about the marathon.

I totally recommend the Vault for celebrations. They have awesome martinis, and they make these dates wrapped in bacon that are like a gift from god. Seriously.

I've never been single in Portland, but I'm sure there are plenty of hot single men. I just don't know many. I could do some field research for you :)

And definitely open for a meet-up. I'll need to know who I'm cheering for (the race route goes really close to my house).

Ooooh, that's so exciting! I've never been to Portland but I'm sure you'll have a great time and the weather will be pleasant. Sucks the hotels are pricey.

The Portland marathon looks fabulous. You'll have your friends for support during the race and you'll have the support of all us bloggers for training. There are also a lot of us with marathons in the fall to keep each other on track. No worries!

wow, you're so amazing! 2 marathons! it is one of my goals to run a marathon at some point in my life, so i envy you!

Excellent ! Way to get going on marathon #2. If you need any advice dealing with travelling, I'd be happy to give it to you...I've travelled all across the country for marathons, 50 milers and 100 milers.

Very exciting, POM. As for support system, you've got your two BFF's to support you. And marathons are chock full of hot men. I know that I enjoyed chasing Hot Guy In Orange during my first marathon.

How great a destination marathon with the best girls. I love it! I will be here to support you through all of it, umm except with the actual running.

I am so in to Paramore right now. Check out some songs from their previous album worth a listen to.

That sounds fabulous. I hear it's beautiful. We have a friend who ran it last year.

I'm wondering about hot vegan men and dates wrapped in bacon. Could they be one in the same? Oh, probably not because of the bacon. I can't decide if I want my date wrapped in bacon...

but I digress.

I'm excited for your news. :D

Cool!! I have thought about Portland before but have yet to do it. My best friend lives there so I always thought maybe I could convince her to do it too... Sounds like you have a fabulous weekend in store with your friends. Don't worry about the details just yet, it'll all come together. Might want to just reserve a hotel now and you can always change/cancel. The logistics of travelling to a race are a bit complicated but you can handle it. :)

Just catching up on blogs. Sorry to hear about the Captain. But enough sympathy, right? Go out and run him off! You will do great in Portland; don't worry about all the things that stress you out about the race. Traveling will make it more special, and methinks that you will have a great pick-up story for the night after the marathon when you go out with your girls!

Okay everyday your song is one i like. haha.

That is awesome about the marathon. I want to visit portland so bad, but will not be up to a marathon yet by that time. haha.

I do want to join some smaller races soon. I am considering the one you told me about on my blog. hmmmmmm.

I forgot to mention that I'm signed up for the San Jose RnR Half on Oct. 5th so I will be running with ya! (just in different states...) :)

I wish I could do PDX too. Now you have a big race to look forward to all summer. Yea, you will do awesome.

I am doing my 50k on Oct 19th.

Awesome choice!!! If I didn't get in mine, I was totally going to do this race - because I LOVE that city. Lived there for 10 years. Would maybe give one of my legs to go back there. The Gazelle is right - Vault is awesome. And that whole area of town is fantastic (Pearl District). Anywho....anytime you have ?s let me know. There are LOTS of hot men there, although I'm sure you won't have that same need then :)

Haven't commented in awhile but I had to put in my two sense as I'll be running the Portland marathon as well! I was actually born and raised there and moving back in three weeks...very exciting stuff. You'll have a blast, let me know if you have any questions or anything!

First of all, dang, you got a lot of fans. dang. dang. dang. Second of all, I'll never look at vegetables the same way again. Third, i was thinking about running in groups and you'll love running in a group when its a long run. usually when there is a marathon training group, they put you together with other runners of your same ability. so, u arent stuck with a 5-minute miler, and u also arent stuck with a 13-minute miler. so, that should be a lot of fun.

"but if I'm using the "secret" then maybe... just maybe..."
LOL!

I stayed at a beautiful B&B in Portland when I was there. Maybe I can think of it....

You seem to have a pretty rockin' support system on here.

You're gonna love it! Yummy Pac-NW guys . . . outdoorsy and hot. Great weather (generally!). Nice people. Good stuff.

I'm not running it (at least not at this point), but may be down there (I'm in Seattle) with my book.

Keep us posted with your training!

Okay, first of all... I just got all caught up on the past few days of your blog. Sigh. I'm not going to provide any uncomfortable sympathetic words, but just know I'm all ears if you want them!
(hotthickchick@gmail.com)

And second of all.... AWESOME choice!! Wahoo!

I'm totally into a meet-up!
AND..........
I was mostly single for the better part of my first 6 years in P-town and found plenty of hotness to keep me busy ;)

As for places to stay... I know of two affordable options not too too far from the marathon start point (one is walkable, the other is cheap cab-able): The Ace Hotel and The Jupiter Hotel. Check 'em out online. Also, Hotel DeLuxe is probably less $$ than say, The Westin or a Kimpton property, so look into that one too.

And for support... girl... Be prepared, I'll make some wicked GO POM!!! signs

Oh wow, I just signed up for the Disney Marathon and I didn't even THINK about my iPod. I really need to look into that for anything else I'm considering...

Unknown said...

Oh darn! I've been thinking of running that one (I hear it's fabulous), but we're going to be running the Royal Victoria Marathon the following weekend. Have fun!

Portland is a beautiful city. I haven't run the marathon, but I've heard good things about it. If I recover from my various damaged parts before the race fills up, I might sign up for the half.

I prefer races where I travel, because the race becomes part of a big party. We end up meeting friends, going to dinner, and having a wonderful time. When we race at home, we work, do stuff around the house, and the race is more of a source of stress than a source of fun. Kind of makes you wonder why we do it? Makes me wonder too!
