Cornucopia Bloggin'

I have a plethora of thoughts to share with you today.

First off, I did my 2nd Bikram class this week and it was so so so much better. I actually enjoyed some of the postures and didn't feel like I was going to puke. I'm really excited to be motivated about it again. I also asked the owner if she's seen the hot detective around. I guess he hasn't been in a while. BUT there is a yoga Christmas party. If you remember the last yoga party, it was quite fun.

Of course it's Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Thanksgiving marks the start the eating frenzy that we call "THE HOLIDAYS." It's the time of year that we allow ourselves that extra cookie, slice of pie or bottle of wine, in my case. Now don't get me wrong, I am all about indulging and enjoying life. But there's got to be a way to get through the next month without blowing your entire diet out of the water.

Here are a few of my tips, but please share your own in the comments!
And you know I am no professional or doctor and I'm a bit psycho, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Actually no need for extra salt. ha ha.
  1. Drink lots of water starting from when you wake up.
  2. Eat a little BEFORE you go to a party so you don't dive into the appz table starving to death. Even if it's a handful of nuts or a string cheese.
  3. PORTIONS PORTIONS PORTIONS. I can't stress this enough. With all the wonderful selections of food, we tend to pile our plates like we preparing for a rationing. But if you have just a little taste of each, you'll be full in no time. AND STOP when you're full (this is a hard one for me).
  4. Try to stick to foods that are high in protein and lots of veggies (just not the creepy ones covered in cream of mushroom sauce - ick).
  5. Exercise. Hey, we have time off work - it's the perfect time to get an extra run in. Or grab the kiddos and go to the park, play a game of touch football, try a yoga video, go for a walk with your hunny to get away from your crazy family for 30 minutes. Or WALK to the store when you run out of wine.

Finally, a tradition for most of us this time of year is to go around and say what we are thankful for. In my family, Grandpa Snook makes us hold hands. Seriously peeps. It's weird and annoying, but we all go along with it. So here goes my thankful list:

  1. I'm thankful I have so many things to be thankful for, but I'm only listing 5.
  2. I'm thankful for my sister who is my best friend in the entire world. And her darling little baby girls who will hopefully take care of me when I'm an old spinster.
  3. I'm thankful for my healthy body that allows me to do all the things I enjoy.
  4. I'm thankful for my friends who pull through for me when I need them.
  5. I'm thankful for a job, apartment & car in the crazy economy.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and remember....

PORTION CONTROL!

for me, the #1 challenge (since I don't have to deal with my family) is stopping when I'm full. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

My #1 challenge is not killing my parents. They are driving me NUTSSSS. Seriously.

But yes, stopping when I'm full is also hard for me. I don't say no to anything, and do don't low calorie anything, but portion control is KEY. I also try to not get swept up in the sentimentality of the food -- i.e. OH this is the one day a year when I can eat this. I eat a small portion and move on. I'm thankful (har) that I can't eat most of it for leftovers because of Lucia's belly issues. So I get one day, then I can't eat any of the leftovers. Hooray!

I love the thankful list! I swear my gratitude journal has helped keep me positive this month.

I think that Thanksgiving for me is now about the left overs...I want to enjoy the food for days and days rather than all at once, but I'm kinda weird too.

My #1 challenge was choosing where to go - but I couldn't decide from my friends - so quick trip to the pshyco family in Idaho.

And I hear ya on the sibling's kids. I need them too!

Eh, I figure if the extra food in my mouth keeps me from saying something I shouldn't at the family table, then it's worth the extra weight!

Enjoy your turkey day tomorrow!

That's a great set of lists! Personally, i've got a 7 mile run planned tomorrow morning before meeting up with the fam for turkey and overblown portions. Then a bike ride friday and 11 mile run on saturday. Should be a fun weekend!

Have a great turkey day! I'm also very thankful this year.

I too have a problem stopping when I'm full. I wish I could just push my plate away like some people.

A turkey trot and three laps round Legoland will fill my day, sometimes being an alien has it's benefits!

Portion control is so important. I know how much I should eat, I just have to listen to myself abnd not go for the extra.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

One thing I struggle with during the holidays is PEER PRESSURE!

Mainly from my family though during Thanksgiving day - they all seem to think the world will end if I don't eat until I'm about to explode.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh I'm real good with portion control. It's coming back for more of my "reasonable" portions that I suck at!

"Or WALK to the store when you run out of wine."

That is by far my favorite tip. Hahah.

My tip?

Run a marathon a week before Thanksgiving! Then you can eat like crazy!!

I hear you on the wine. J bought 2 bottles of Pinot for us tomorrow. They are sitting in our wine rack taunting me right now.

Definitely agreeing with number one for sure about being thankful.

I feel like I deserve that wine if I walk to get it;)

Shockingly, I felt absolutely no need to indulge yesterday. Even dessert didn't look appealing. I MUST be ill!

Glad you went back to Bikram!

#2 on the list usually does me good. Handful of almonds and I'm set.

Alisa said...

Portion control...something I don't have either =).

And #2 doesn't work all that well for me...I feel like it's just extra calories.

Great list POM, the two of em! Way to get back into Bikram. I have to get into a yoga class STAT. Like a streching one more. I think Bikram is the pretty hard core strength wise.

Shiz, sorry I am just random rambling on the comments section.

Portion control?

I definitely skipped that rule.
