Facing the Music

Since the marathon (over a month ago) I have been in post-marathon "do what you like" mode. For me this means running sporadically and eating whatever I want. This also means that there is no turning down a night out of drinks (or night in, for that matter). I haven't even stepped on the scale. Now if you read this blog at all, you know I am obsessed with the scale.

So this morning I decided it was time to face the music. I did go on a nice 5 miler this morning, so that's always a good time to check in with the weight. (Note: I also did a very hilly 5-miler at my sisters over the weekend and OUCH - it was very challenging).

To my complete and utter surprise, the scale said 134. This is within my range. Of course 130 is my miso-happy weight, but 134 is more typical for me. As a matter of fact, I weighed 135 after the marathon.

So what this tells me is that I am getting pretty good and comfortable with knowing HOW (and how much) to eat, even when I'm not technically counting calories or obsessing about my intake. This makes me happy people. This tells me, "hey self, you got it figured out." Even though I wasn't thinking about what I was eating, I was still keeping things in check. I did NOT go out for burgers, fries or fatty meals. It now comes natural for me to make a healthy choice, especially at a restaurant. How awesome is that?

that's awesome! I am almost there myself - and it's such a good feeling (as is, I've heard but not ever tried, once-a-month scale check-ins).

Awesome! I think after carefully watching what you eat, you would really have to make an effort to eat garbage. You got it down girl! :) Well done. Good job on the run too!

What a great great healthy habit you have formed. The girls here in chico have a tendency to drink their beer as meals. Not healthy and by Christmas they all have an extra 10lbs (at least) and their clothes don't fit. Glad I'm not in college. LOL

Can you revamp my diet for me? I'm so tired of eating the same things over and over. I'm glad the Marathon is just 4 weeks away.

That's great news! It's a good feeling to know that you DON'T have to obsess about everything you put in your mouth.

I always weight myself after I run too. Ha!

Great job girl! It's hard to say no sometimes...especially to the drinks.

So cool. I'm not quite there yet, but over the years the oscilations on the scale haven't swung as far up or down as they used to...I'm honing in on a zone I can stay within comfortably, and I'm glad about that. Do you ever notice that you have a 'low' weight, where even an apple will make you gain, but then just a few pounds above that is where your body wants to be, and you can pretty much eat what you want and stay there? It's so strange...

RunToTheFinish said...

Highly possible you are eatting less than during training because that training makes a person hungry!!! way to go!

That's fantastic! I'm learning how to tell the "I'm bored hungry's" from the "I'm really hungry, hungry's."

Have you thought about your next marathon? I know you have a half in January.

Glad you've found your happy place, weight-wise. My experience was similar. When I stopped obsessing about weight and started eating healthy, I stayed at more or less the same weight.

That is just awesome. I hope that one day I get to that comfortable place of eating right just feels right. I've gained some weight, and (again) am trying to loose it. My head is starting to get it though.

Very happy for you!

Jess said...

Wow that totally rocks! Keeping it in check for a whole month without jumping on the scale every day totally rocks!

That's fantastic! It's just like running- training yourself until it's just second nature:)

Sounds like your body and your mind are getting synched up pretty well - congrats! :)

Awesome! Staying at your goal weight without trying at all...dude! You are doing great!

One of the hardest things for me is listening to my body and stopping eating when I'm full, especially if I've still got a huge plate of food in front of me...so I always just make as much food for myself as I need so I'm not tempted. I'd love it if I could just not be tempted though! :)

Mrs Furious said...

"How awesome is that?"

Awesome.
I like to think of how far we've come that splurging is still probably a good 500-1000 calories less than it might have been (for me anyway).
