A couple people commented on the necklaces I have hanging from the tie rack! Here's the deal with that. As most of you know that travel is part of my job. When I first started traveling I would collect stupid souvenirs or trinkets from each destination (if it was a cool one). Within a year I realized that I hate trinkets and clutter and these things are of no use to me.
That's when I realized that it would be cool to get a necklace from each place - if I felt that I HAD to get something. That way, I will wear them and they come with a fun story. I thought this was a pretty darn good idea.
Some of my favorites:
* Bone painted red from Botswana
* Glass hand painted beads from Cape Town
* Big fun cheapy beaded one from Cabo
* Glass in wire from a street fair in London
* Black circles - from Portland (marathon weekend!)
* Jade symbol - from New Zealand
Anyway, it's a fun and functional way to remember your trip!

that is much cooler than lame-ass trinkets you don't know what to do with in a couple of months! and such a good idea!
I agree, necklaces are better than trinkets. They just collect dust ... but accessories can make an outfit and a great story.
That's an excellent collection. I used to collect windchimes from each place. What the hell am I supposed to do with 30 windchimes???
That is a functional way to remember your trip. too cool.
Can't thank you enough for stopping by my blog and commenting. I generally am only read by other CFers and their families, but it is awesome to know when runners stop by and check it out. I really hope you enjoyed what you saw!
We'll have to have a little distance battle one week :)

That is a very cool idea. You have been to some amazing places. Have a great weekend.
Love this idea! Very cool. I always feel like I need to buy something when I travel so I might have to steal this one. Right now we just bought bottles of alcohol at the duty free shops! :) Necklaces are probably better for my health, huh?
That's a great idea. Much better than something lame, like shot glasses.
That IS a great idea. I usually get magnets but then I have a room with an entire metal band around it where I keep them all (instead of the fridge) so it's a funky and fun way to display them. :)
that is cool. i used to get t-shirts from every city i went to, but now between those and the race t-shirts the drawer spilleth over.
That's a great idea!!
Once again, I'm so jealous of your job!
Thanks for the recommendation on the Amish books, I think I will definitely check them out. Are they written by the Amish or just centred around Amish culture??
Now I want to travel again and start collecting something new. I did get necklaces in Nepal - and they all broke the first time I wore them. I got some wooden braclets in Gambia. But there aren't a lot of quality choices in those silly 3rd world countries!
BTW - what's an Amish book?
Very cool - and practical.
I love it!!
Can I steal your idea? I'll credit you ; )
Hate clutter. Love fun jewelry. Brilliant.
Where did you get the coral-colored beaded necklace with the shell pendant--the one on the very right of the picture? I absolutely love it!
Very cool! Great idea!
That's such a cute idea! ;D I might have to pick this up . . .umm yeah if I ever travel LOL
This is an awesome idea. I stopped getting hokey t-shirts as souvenirs years ago b/c I realized they all ended up at Goodwill after a while.
Everyone already said it. Great idea and I am going to steal it :-) Thanks for sharing!!
That's such a great idea. My sister is in Europe for the summer, and I told her all I wanted was jewelry.
I almost always do jewelry too! It is a great way to remember a place by and something you might actually use!
