I'm making a diligent effort to keep up on my blogging. So while I was pondering what to blog about, I thought I would take a look back to see what was going on this time LAST year. Well, last year, I was about to run a freakin' half marathon for Mother's Day.
Darn it, how have I gotten so far from where I was? I really need to get back on track with regular running if I am going to consider a fall marathon. So step one is to get back into a routine, with short weekday runs. Starting today after work.
I've kept up with the weekend warrior status. Remember at the end of March when I said I would do a science experiment for ya'll to see if I can just eat well and be a weekend workout warrior and maintain my weight???? Remember? Remember when? (Jk, sounds like a 2 yr old, huh?)
At that time I was about 139 - which is totally pushing it on the high end for me. At my hey day of marathon training last fall I was down to 128 (which might be a bit too low for me) but my happy-jess weight is 132-134. Well as of this morning I'm at 137. (If you're new to this blog, my highest weight evah was 168, about 3.5 yrs ago.)
So what this tells me is that FOR ME (everyone is different) it really is all about food to keep my weight low. Although running like a madwoman really helps.
So there ya have it.
The experiment is officially closed and my lazy a$$ needs to get back into the running routine. There really is another fall marathon in the back of my mind- more on that once I wrap my head around it.

Nothing like signing up for 26.2 to get you into a routine! One of the things I love most about marathon training is the schedule...for some reason having it written down on a calendar makes me stick to it.
I agree with Carrie, I need a schedule. Though, I've been marathon training for so long now with two marathons not about 5 months apart, I'm ready for a NEW schedule. One that includes other activities =).
For me, I need both exercise and healthy eating to maintain. To lose, I need super crazy exercise and super crazy calorie cutting (my metabolism sucks balls).
Can't wait to hear which fall marathon you pick? I'm going back to halfs after SD for a little while.
Good luck getting back into a routine. Maybe you need a 5-K to get you going again. Cheers!
I don't suppose you're coming up for PDX again?
For me, it is also all about the food. But, since I don't want to watch my food intake, I have to run. When I am good about food AND exercise, then I lose. Hmmm....I feel like I've just made some kind of scientific breakthrough!
Yeah, diet alone doesn't do much for me. Maybe part of my problem is that I automatically tend to make better food choices when I'm exercising regularly (and become a couch potato when I'm not).
Good luck with breaking out of the weekend warrior status!
I'm also trying to get back into running. I ran a marathon during the fall of 2006, but then I started grad school & it has consumed my life for the last 3 years. I had my last class last night so no more excuses! My goal is to run a 1/2 this fall and then maybe do a marathon the following spring or summer. We'll see!
Good luck getting back into a running regimen!
I just started running on a regular basis again and I immediately dropped some weight. It sucks that i'm not one of those people who can eat whatever and run, or who can eat healthy, and not work out. I need to eat healthy and work out like crazy, bah!
nice job on dropping some weight, I've found that running helps the most and ps. we weight the same. freeeeaky! :)
um yeah I eat to much not to run... or maybe cause I run I eat too much, crap
I need to watch what I eat, just working out/running doesn't do it for me, I eat more. I need a balance between the two.
I like to think regular running means that I can eat whatever I want, but I know that's not true. I'd just rather run more than eat less.
I know that signing up for a race gets me into a routine!! LOL at what RunToFinish wrote.
I'm the same as you, the eating makes all the difference when it comes to my weight loss. But if I don't work out I usually end up feeling really gross and flabby! Haha
Great job with everything !! i finally figure out the food thing too. its a hard balance
you are so one to DECIDE and DO.
did you run last night after work?
just say yes, jess. yes to healthy food choices, yes to some running after work, and yes to a fall marathon. go for it, we're behind you all the way.
You. Ass of couch. Run. Get back in the game.
Me. Ass of couch. Run. Knock some socks off.
See? It's easy.
I think we might need to create new blogs just to post about all our dating shenanigans...
3lbs away from your happy weight----That's awesome. It would take you like 2-3 weeks of diligent eating and exercise to get back in that range. The trick is staying there...

Okay, this is totally unrelated to this post.
You're Perfect 10 story is KILLING ME!!!! Do you know that I've had a recurring dream about it ever since your first post about that darn cell phone mistake.
But in my last dream we (yeah, we were hanging out) to the same place you met him on the same night of the week at the same time and you found him.
I'll keep you posted on the next installment of my dreams, but just know that your life is making me insane right now.
A schedule is always helpful with motivation. But to be the same approximate weight a year later with less running, is pretty dang good!
I agree with Jess. I'm sure my weight would ++++ if I didn't run regularly. It's been a rough year for you with life changes, boy issues, etc. Some running could be helpful.
can't wait to hear about what the fall marathon could be :)
you know what you have to do to be where you want to be, and we all know you will get back there soon!
