9 Miles, Hammies and Oozing Pus

The title says it all, but here's a few more deets...

I did my 9 mile run in today (on the treadmill at the hotel). Let's just say that the love-affair with the treadmill was short lived. The bastardo pulled a fast one on me. He led me to believe that we would have fun together and everything would be peachy. Well NOT so much! By mile 3, we were getting sick of each other. By mile 5, we stopped communicating all together and by mile 8, there was nothing else I wanted more in the world but to get away from the Masochistic Jerk Off. But, I got my 9 miles in - about 1:26 mins or so. I was sooooooo sweaty.

During my run, my legs felt really tired. Which is weird for me - my legs can go for days (in more ways than one - wink wink) and it's usually my lungs or brain that poops out. But my legs were just killing me. I finished up and got off the Death Mill to do my stretches. OUWIE WOWIE. My right hamstring is soooo tight & sore that I can't even touch my toes. So here is my question for you all - how do you know if your muscle is sore from doing dead lifts or if I actually pulled a muscle???

Saving the best for last - I have AT LEAST 15 mosquito bites on my lowers legs. They didn't bother me the day I go them, but the day after they swelled up. This is not unusual for me. I am alergic and get all puffy/swollen from anything that bites me. Well day three has been a real hoot. I was standing in line for lunch at this little sandwich place and feel something dripping down my leg in several places. MY BITES ARE OOZING PUS to the extent that it is actually dripping down my legs. The seepage is seriously disgusting. I'm sure nobody is going to want to SALSA with a seeping girl.

Just weighed myself - the scale is still in it's usual spot. 2 out of 3 goals reached thus far. Tomorrow is my last day of work then the fun shall commence. So the 3rd goal should be reached soon.
Thank you sweet little baby Jesus.

I have the same problem with my left hammstring. Get a massage and do yoga. Take about 250mg of magnesium too. It's not pulled. You'd be in a lot more pain if it was. Just do yoga to counteract the tightness that running brings on.

Hope you are doing ok. Pussy legs are gross but you never know, someone might be into it. LOL.

Girl, I am so feeling your pain; do you think you should go to the doc? The mosquito bites gone bad - that just freaks me out! Get better. And 9 miles on the treadmill, you rock.

Here's how I felt when reading the title of your post...first, psyched for your 9 miles (way to go)...then, hungry as the first thought that came to mind was that awesome Moons-over-my-hammie dish at Denny's....finally, like throwing up the moons-over-my-hammie disk and whether or not it would actually look like oozing pus.

Hope the hamstring feels better.

Hehe go for days...wink wink.

I would tell you that "tight and sore" just means you've activated the muscle in a big way and it's trying to recover. If you actually pulled it, you'd be in constant, wicked pain. The fact that you ran on it means you're fine.

Are there pics of you doing deadlifts? That would be grand.

Oh man that is terrible about the mosquitoes! Ouch.

As for the sore leg or pulled muscle thing, I think there is a different intensity of pain, but I am not 100% sure.

Good job on the run!!

I finally just ran 40 minutes without my hip breaking. It was spectacular. hahah.

I can't do more than 1 hour on the treadmill or I start to get twitchy - I'm really impressed w/ your 9 miles. I'd have to agree that you probably didn't pull the hamstring.

Have fun with the dancing!

Well, to further complicate things, you could have pulled a hammie doing dead lifts. I'd say get a massage, I'm guessing they have a spa at the hotel, but that pus thing might be a deal breaker.

Judi did not just say pussy legs...

Come on chica, you didn't take a pic for us? :P

I'd have to agree - you wouldn't have finished those 9 if it was legitimately pulled. When I did mine in back in '05 I couldn't walk without feeling like I had a mountain lion clawing the back of my thighs.

I just read somewhere that an epsom salts bath will draw out the irritating icks in bug bites faster than just letting them heal. Something about the magnesium content in the salts absorbing into the skin. It's also supposed to lower your blood pressure too apparently.

Heal quick, you have some salsa to shimmy out.

Nice job putting all that time in on the treadmill! I have no idea how you can stand it!

"Masochistic Jerk Off" ... clever. I will have to remember that! :) Sometimes that damn dreadmill can be a bitch. You did good!

Sorry to hear about the sore hammies and pussing bits on your legs... I bet that is pretty sexy!

Oh no, those mosquito bites sound horrible! Mine blow up too but I guess not quite as bad as yours.

I also managed to get 9 miles in this weekend - I'm so impressed that you were able to do that on a treadmill! Rock on!

Ewwwwwwwwwwww, have those bites checked out. You don’t want any permanent scarring from them. I knew that deathmill was lying to you, I could tell from the tone of his belt moving.

Agreed, downward facing dog is great for hamstrings -- like you don't know that already. You should def. double up on the neosporin for the bites. Mosquitos LOVE me and everytime I'm on the east coast I get eaten alive.

Ah yes, the short lived treadmill love affair. I've had my own flings and one-night stands before. :)

My body does the same thing with bites. Take an antihistamine. It will help.

Well, I doubt I could run 9 miles if I'd pulled a hammy. Hope the mosquito bites calm down soon!

I'd get that checked out, you don't want a hypochondriac like me elaborating on what it MIGHT be...Bott Fly came to mind...not good.

On the other hand, 9 miles, impressive. My sister wants to train for a 5K, I was strangely inspired bu this thought and am seriously considering this as a small, get healthy goal...where and how do you start this kind of training???

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwwwww! Thats disgusting!
I'm totally lost for words.

btw...I'm ot expert, but the last time I pulled a muscle it was agony, not just a bit sore. So I would imagine a pulled Hamstring would mean being virtually unable to move it or put any weight on it at all. I'm sure it'll be fine in a few days.

Hahah ew oozing bug bites just sound gross.

I hope the hammie is just a sore muscle and that in a day or two the pain will go away!

Yikes, the whole thing just sounds nasty....

I understand what you are saying about the mosquito bites. I think that I am allergic to them because they are just NASTY when I get them! It will be dark when you go dancing, no one will notice!

Oy!! I hope that is healed up by now!!

No pics of the oozing..?

Just now getting all caught up on your blog. Nice pics too, and I can't get over you doing 9 miles on a treadmill. All I've ever been able to do was 5 at a time. That thing just drags out the time way more than the road does. Way to go! keeping the plan on track. Amazing....

Keep it up, and take tons of pics for us... since we're all stuck at homes with our computers and blogs.. :-)

ewwwww about those bites. but what can you do? do you have any leggings?

the treadmill is the worst. weird opinion since i ran on it all winter long. get outside if you can!!!

Nitmos said...

This is far fetched but...could the evil treadmill have bitten your legs? They are that way after all.
