Sleepy Yogi

I didn't get all 3 days of yoga in, but I did manage 2 days. I'm quite pleased with myself and quite sore! I forgot how much it really works every muscle in your body.

I had a weird experience on Sunday though. Right when we got to the floor exercises (about half way thru) I has this overwhelming sense of exhaustion. So bad that I could hardly keep my eyes open. I had to really struggle to not just fall asleep there on stinky floor. It was strange. I pushed thru the class, but the second I walked in my door (sweaty and all) I collapsed on the cough and fell fast asleep for 2 straight hours. The only reason I woke up is because my phone rang. I am not a napper at all so this was truly strange.

The only thing I can think it could be is that I have this horrible cough thing and have been partaking in cough medicine left and right. But I took "day time" that morning. Who knows.

Calf still hurts. I am gonna rest it and stretch it for another week before attemping to run at all.

Weekend of Yoga

Here is my goal for the weekend - putting it OUT there.

Bikram Yoga - Friday, Saturday AND Sunday.
(maybe even tonight - Thur)

Since I can't run right now, I will use this time to get back to yoga.
I will try to run again next week if my calf is feeling better.

A couple of you guys mentioned my shoes - I wear the same brand all the time and my newest pair only have about 60 miles on them (yes I keep track). This calf thing is a re-occurring issue. I just need to rest it for a while. Then somehow magically run 20 miles the moment it's feeling better. ha! I can do it.

In other news, I think I am allergic to my office. While I was gone I felt great. 3 days back at this desk and my throat itches. I have this naggy hacky cough thing. Weird, I say.

Today is my friday - so have a great weekend everyone!!!
Peace out.

Almost Back

Howdy peeps.
Thank you all for the uplifting words over the weekend. Here's how it all panned out.

Friday - I made a little oopsy. I met some friends at our local watering hole where I bumped into the Captain. I know, I know. But a girl has needs.

So I decided to start over on Saturday. I went for a little run to test the waters. The first mile was fantastic. But about 1.2 miles in, the pain in my calf came back so I turned around. Luckily I had movie plans with my bestie so that took my mind of off the failed run. We saw "He's Just Not That Into You. Quite apropos given the current situation. ha ha.

I did a lot of reading - finished "The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb. I liked it, but I didn't connect with it as I have with his other 2 novels.

And the best part of the weekend is that I got my booty back to Bikram! I went 2 days. My body feels awesome. Tight and a little sore, but a good sore. Just going to class makes me feel like I've accomplished something. I need that feeling right now. I also tried to get a spin class in, but the ones at 24 Hour Fitness are annoying and always booked. I am looking into this spin club that I used to go to, just need to get a new schedule and change the clippy things on my shoes cuz they have different pedals or whatever.

So overall, it was a good relaxing weekend. I can say that I definately felt the "being single" lonliness, but I know once I get back into the swing of things, I'll be ok with that.

Oh, last thing, there was ONE spotting of the hot neighbor, but just waves from afar were had.

That is all.

S & M

Today's theme is S & M.

NOOOOOOOOO... not THAT kind - you pervies.

S = Struggle
M = Move on

STRUGGLE:
I made it to Bikram last night, really eager to get in there and sweat out some of the wine from my bday wine tasting weekend. I felt good for about 10 minutes. By the time we got to Standing Head to Knee pose, I thought I was going to die. I had to sit down about 4 times in the class. For the first time, I even contemplated leaving. But I didn't. I stuck with it. After class, I threw on my sweats and headed home. I felt dizzy my entire drive home. I shoved some chicken in my mouth and still felt like crappy. (Now for the gross part) I thought "I'll just lay down for a minute" before my shower because I felt so weak and dizzy. PEOPLE, I fell asleep in my sweaty mess with NO shower! How gross is that??????

MOVE ON:
Now, I know have this challenge that I signed up for, so I knew that NO MATTER WHAT, I was going to get some cardio in the morning. My plan was to run 4 miles, but based on how I was feeling the night before, I was just going to see what happened and maybe walk. But I felt great! I don't understand why the difference, but I have an idea...

I think that over my bday week and weekend I consumed so much sugar and wine that my body was going into serious detox in yoga. Plus, Monday I cut my calories back (probably too far back) and just had no energy for yoga.

But I'm moving on.
We all struggle, we all get over it.
It's part of this wonderful journey we are all on.

I actually ran the entire way this morning and threw in an extra mile (hey there IS a contest going on).

Regarding the contest, my plan is just do at least ONE thing a day. So normally when I would take a day off, I am going to do either yoga or at least go for a walk. This will help me accumulate points. We'll see how it goes. Heck even if I lose, I totally win by staying physical over the Christmas season. Boo-ya! I will post my contest status on Friday's I think. But you know I like to frequently change my mind. As of right now, I have 8.5 points.

Last of all.... here is a fun pic of Sister Birthday Fun 2008!

Back to Bikram

I feel like an old lady today. And it's all Bikram's fault.

You know I was totally freaked about going back. It's been over 6 weeks! I wasn't sure how I would be able to hold up and I was afraid to fail.

The class seriously kicked my butt. First of all, I think I was a little calorie and water deficient. I had to sit down like 5 times. Plus I thought I was going to puke. But I stayed in the class and tried my best and was so glad I did.

My muscles today are so sore. I forgot I had muscles in in some of these parts. I am looking forward to getting Bikram back in the rotation. I really do feel like it strengthens so many parts (especially back) that I wouldn't work otherwise. I've said it before and I'll say it again - anyone who says that 'yoga is just stretching' has never taken a Bikram class.

Despite having sore muscles, my run this morning felt great.
Think the two are related????
I do.

Yoga Love

After a kickass Bikram class last night I am feeling HUMAN again.

I have solved all of my emotional problems and am ready to conquer the world.

Yes, it's really that good. I swear - after class I felt so much better about all the crap that was getting me down yesterday.

I let it go. It's gone.

Ran 5 miles this morning. My gluts are super tight right now - gives a new meaning to "tight ass." I wonder how they will feel after my 18 miler this weekend. I really need a massage. But thanks to my lovely Invisalign, there will be no frolicky spending for a while. Frolicky - I like that word.

Ten is the New Black

Looking at my training schedule for the next few months, there are a LOT of 10-milers. Today was the first. And lemme tell ya, this makes me one happy girl.

I love ten.
Ten is the new eight (I used to love eight).
Ten is the new black.
Ten is the new flip flop.
Ten is the new chocolate soy milk.

I was totally DORKED out in all my gear - Here are the results:
Mile 1: 8:51
Mile 2: 9:35
Mile 3: 9:53
Mile 4: 10:05 (hill)
Mile 5: 9:37
Mile 6: 9:41
Mile 7: 9:39
Mile 8: 9:09 (Had to pass some blond skinny beeotches)
Mile 9: 9:12 (Cute firemen)
Mile 10: 9:08
Total: 1:34: 50

I'm off to yoga again. Last nights class was so awesome, it was almost sexual. It's like a drug and I need me some more! I will be back to blog about it...

A 'Sense' of Bikram

The Five Senses of Bikram (according the POM Institute of California)
x

SIGHT: The class is held in a large, carpeted studio with mirrors on 2 walls. All the usual suspects were in attendance: The Hard Bodies, The Hairy Bodies, The Mushy Bodies, The Anorexic. Something to note is that in regards to clothing - less is more. And "less" there is. Some people are practically in bathing suits and some of the men are in tiny biker shorts with their junk on display for all to experience.
x

SOUND: The instructor guides you through the 26 postures, so the main thing you hear is her/his voice. Usually it's pretty soothing and I like to hear how each posture benefits your body. The other thing you hear is BREATHING - lots of people breathing. Oh, and in my case, I hear ringing in my ears - but that's just me.
x

SMELL: Now this is something that takes some getting used to. Remember the room is carpeted and there is lots of sweat dripping around. The first time I took this class with my friend K-Dub we had a very hard time focusing on anything but the stench. But now, I'm sorta used to it. Kinda like how farmers get used to the smell of shit, I guess. Even after not going to class in about 6 months, I still didn't really bother me. Go figure.
x

TASTE: Lucky for us all, I managed to keep my tongue inside my mouth, so there was no tasting involved. Except I guess for water. One must consume copious amounts of water.
x
x
x

FEEL: This can be divided into a few categories.
x
HOW IT FEELS: It feels HOT and MOIST (I know some of you hate that word) so we can go with WARM and WET instead. The room is kept at 105 degrees with 40% humidity. Well, pack about 50 people into that room in a crowded class and I swear it's hotter! You start out doing a breathing exercise and by the time you are done with that, you are completely soaked through with sweat. Each position stretches and strengthens different parts of your body - inside and out. So some are easier than others, depending on your strengths & weaknesses.
x

HOW IT FEELS TO ME: By the time I'm at half-moon pose (#2) I am really really hot. I have hard time with this pose because I can't straighten my arms above my head. Who knows. Pose 6 and 7 - my heart is POUNDING - like a full on cardio workout. I actually had to sit down on the 2nd set of these poses. I didn't want to pass out. But sitting down is fine - they just ask that you don't leave the room. Pose 22 is very challenging. I wasn't able to complete it this time because of the dizzy situation. But in the past - I loved it. It really stretches out the front side of your body - perfect for runners (tight hip flexors).
x

HOW IT FEELS AFTER: All in all, I survived. There was no tunnel vision, no blacking out and no puking! Yeah for me. The best part of this class is how I feel after I'm done. I feel spent, but relaxed. I feel energized, but mellow and clear headed. I feel cleansed physically and mentally. And best of all, I feel LEAN and MEAN and ready to take on the world.
x

(Warning: confession of a scale-whore)
I did step on the scale when I got home and lost a couple lbs of water weight - duh! I thought I drank enough water before, during and after, but I think I fell short a little. I woke up very tired with a little headache this morning. So next time -even MORE water! And yes, there will be a next time. I would like try to incorporate this into my workout schedule at least twice a week.
