Short Talk

On my last half marathon, there was a coupon in my goodie bag for lucy - a women's active wear store/website. It was 25% off any single item (just enter the code 1231gen at checkout). I'm a sucker for sales and ordering on the Internet. I just love getting boxes at work with fun stuff in them.

I picked up these little babies. I love the color and they are just so cute. I totally mix and match all my running stuff - and I use the word "match" loosely. (I hardly ever match - unlike SOME people we know... VIV).

My first debate is on the sizing. There is something in my head that says "you're not a small" so I usually opt for the medium. Then I get home and wish I had the small. So this time I got the small. They fit well, so I washed them and ripped out the tags. I took them on their first little 5 mile spin this morning. ARGGGHHH About mile 2 the creepage began. Should have bought the damn mediums. I guess I like my running shorts big. Overall, they were compfy, I just have to keep them for my shorter runs.

I swear, nothing compares to my Brooks shorts - they are the ones that I am wearing in EVERY race photo because they are the bomb-diggity! I guess I should just stick with what works and go buy like 15 pairs of those.

What running shorts do you prefer?
Do you wear them bigger than your normal size?

PS: Go check out this website for fun, affordable clothing: Lady Language. They have a blog too. And I got out of Target only spending $107. Not too bad, not too bad.

I honestly have NEVER found a pair of shorts that I love to run in. I think that I have one pair that I tolerate. They always seem to creep! OK for at home on the treadmill, but not outside in front of people!

I have a couple from Nike and Road Runner Sports that I likes. I go through that debate with shirts. I have some that are small and some that are medium...the worst is when I see stuff on sale that is only left in a small, I am always tempted but not sure it will fit!

I haven't run in shorts yet, only yoga pants. Wary of the creep issue. Not attractive to be pulling at your crotch every 100 meters.

I'm in the market for some shorts - can you post a link to your favorite Brooks shorts??

Because I want to be just like you. :)

Not a big fan of creepage, but I'm also not a big fan of lovehandles hanging over the side. I tend to wear my shorts super small, and super skin tight. This way they don't reach high enough to show my love handles and they're too tight to creep.

Yep.

I wish I could just run naked.

I just got some New Balance shorts, with built in seamless panties & I truly *HEART* them. No creepage, great color, super soft....panties felt like I was 'free'!!

They'll be my new favorites & yes, i get them big, but I fear I'll grow larger, & I want them to fit; i actually got a medium too, IN CASE I get SMALLER!!! ;o)

Nike with the seamless built in panties. Love them, but they still have the creepage factor. Maybe I'll try the Brooks. I *heart* lucy! Bought some great tops there a few months ago and some really comfy casual pants.

all my shorts creep up... so annoying. i like to run in 3/4 length leggings. have you ever heard of running skirts? i want one really badly!

I rarely run in shorts. I'm a skort girl. The best ones I have found I got at Target.

I don't worry about the creep as much because of the girly skirt covering my thighs.

I don't think I've run a race in shorts in a year and a half.

Sometimes, if I do wear shorts, I have a pair of Roxy boardshorts that work really nicely.

You will get mail all the time from Lucy now with discount coupons. Their stuff is really cute.

I run in brooks element shorts...they are the best. Although at the last 1/2 - I bought saucony shorts at the expo and wore them....I really liked them - although I felt like I was running sans any shorts because they were so light.

I love my Champion shorts from Target but they don't make them anymore. :<( I have 5!! pairs of them and when they wear out I am doomed!!

I *heart* my Target shorts and skirt. They work awesome and are super cheap :-) I have a some Nike ones as well, but they just aren't the same. As for size . . .I like anything that hides my cellulite ROFLMAO!

I have yet to find perfect running apparel, but I am new to this game. Brands mean little to me at this point. But I am super critical of everything (style, fit, feel). I MUST try it on first (no online shopping). So far I have usually found - but not always - that the more expensive products feel better. "Nirvana" for me is to find what I like, it fits well, AND it is cheap. In that regard Marcy is my idol. CYA, I am off to go shopping. LOL.

Running Skirts are my preference over shorts!!!

Those are really cute...I'm debating trying a running skirt though...I've heard great things about them and their lack of creepage.

I'm a Target fan and I can't fathom not matching. I mostly just hate paying more than Target prices. I did get a really comfy pair of knee length Nike pants and shirt from TJ Maxx. I always forget to check there, so much cheaper. I also love Nike running hats.

LOL! You would hurl if you saw some of the matching socks. They are the no show, so only my compulsive self knows.

They do have some cute things at Lucy. I need the coupon code to make them cuter.

I am with Marcy, I like my Target Champion Shorts, however I just got a reebok pair and really like them too. The ones you bought look cute!

I also like my Brooks. ONLY my Brooks. I've been wearing the same 3 pair for 5 years.

I love my running skirts, too---party skirt on top, business compression shorts underneath. My favorite by far are the New Balance ones. I bought a bunch of them in different colors. DORK. Also, I normally buy a size up in regular running shorts but stick to the regular size in the skirt. Not sure why.

hee hee you said creepage. I hate creepage.

I wear a pair of spandex biker-type shorts under my running shorts. That way, if my shorts creep up (and they do, obviously, since I've got curvaceous thighs =), I don't notice b/c the first layer of shorts always stays put.

I just got hooked on the shorts - new balance and then I just discovered the compression shorts under the skirt (athleta) they run huge.

I love love love Lucy's clothes. I have a gift card for $70 and am buying the size SMALL active pants as my goal pants post-baby.

Oh and it helps that Lucy is what we are likely going to name baby girl. :)

I always buy mediums as well, and it's usuallyt he same debate. My favorite shorts are a pair of Nike shorts that aren't made any more. Dangit!

Sally JPA said...

Those are cute shorts!

I love Brooks stuff in general. And I like my running shorts to be longer (knee-length) so that they don't ride up.

Unknown said...

I never thought to buy bigger shorts to avoid creepage. Hmmm. Maybe next time I will try that! I hate the creepage. Some of my shorts though, that are on the shorter side creep up less because they don't have that far to go.

Coupons are awesome.

I have some really cute American Apparel short shorts that I use for yoga. I was going to wear them on a run the other day, but by the time I had my sweatshirt on, it looked like I wasn't even wearing shorts. So instead I wore these boys swimsuit shorts that I got years ago... I think they were from Zellers or something. They're super comfy and perfect for running, even if they look ridiculous!

I love the brooks shorts too and nothing compares for sure. I have lately been branching out to the running skort, I just think it looks cute and it isn't more comfy but for short runs they are cute.

I have to admit I have a divide in clothing; my race outfits; yeah it all matches and everything and it's all Asics; medium length shorts and T's or tanks, although I have some rather nice Decente stuff for 5/10ks. Training seems to be Adidas or Nike...go figure?

Oh I just noticed I am only the 2nd guy to post in over 30 comments!

I wore Brooks forever, but after they changed the Nike Tempo track to be a bit roomier in the hips, I'm hooked! I love the low rise of them... I order M, pretty standard bottom size for me.... Definetly prefer them more loose than tight..

I also wear skirts. I've tried them all. SkirtSports fit small - so size M is snug - can't wear the marathon girl, too skimppy on the built in panties. LOVE New Balance Bonita Run Skirt, runningskirts.com and skirtsports gymgirl...

I'm placing an order for some shorts from Oiselle Running - I hear they're great, so I hope to confirm that soon.

There's nothing more frustrating than having the built in panties riding up - I actually cut them out of one pair of shorts I have and just wear them around the house.

Aren't coupons in race bags fun?!

i recently just bought 2 pairs of running shorts (one nike and one road runner brand) but have only worn them once because i am soooo scared of the creeping!!! i always run in tight capris, and love them but its getting TOO HOT out to be doing that now. so i am going to have to try. good to know about the brooks shorts, i need to find some that i love!

I absolutely LOVE my Nike running shorts and have 3 good pairs, one being my Sun Devil shorts. I have been holding off on buying more, even though they are on sale! SO COMFORTABLE!

I have now completely switched over to skirts. I like the C9 ones from Target. Cute, comfy, and no creepage.

J said...

I've had that same problem! I get mediums, they are way too big, so I get smalls and it seems the company changed them so now they are way too small. Ugh.

Id marry my Nike trail running short were it legal.
