The Dopeness

I watched a pretty cool movie last night called The Wackness.

The title came from a part in the movie where the love interest told the young, depressed main character, "Know what your problem is, Shapiro? It's that you just have this really shitty way of looking at things, ya know? I don't have that problem. I just look at the dopeness. But you, it's like you just look at the wackness, ya know?"

So, let's all focus on the dopeness today.
Word.

Something dope that I have to tell you guys about is that I have a crush on my neighbor.
I've seen him around for about over a year now. We say "hi" when we're both running on the boardwalk (he runs!). I've seen him at the market twice, where we have had a bit longer conversations, but nothing substantial. Once I saw him at my local bar BUT I was with someone else, so I just said 'hi' and then left.

I'm just puttin' it out there. Cute neighbor... ask me out for a drink.
It is the 2000's and I suppose I could ask him. What are your thoughts on that?? It could end disastrous like when I had a girl crush and tried to make friends with that bitch at yoga.

I think this is where the "skimpy skirts" from the last post come in handy, no? If he doesn't notice that, then he's probably gay.

Well, what's the worst thing that could happen if you asked him out? He could say no, and then you'd be where you are right now. (Ok, you'd still have to see him when you walked outside, but still... you'd live and so would he.)

My rec? Ask him to go for a run. Then it doesn't have to seem like a date, and you have a chance to actually get to know him. AND you'll get some exercise in, even if you decide he's not worth knowing. Plus, you can keep all pride intact if it doesn't metamorph into a dating situation. I wish I had cute neighbors. My neighbors all have a bunch o' kids. Not a runner in the bunch.

I kind of loved the yoga bitch story. Ha!

I vote you toss out the "we should get a drink some time" at him. He probably thinks you're way to cool and runner and awesome to ever want to go out with him.

Yeah I'm with Victoria but throwing in some Vanilla. Run with him AND wear a skimpy running skirt. Best of both worlds.

I like Victoria's idea about going for a run together. I think you can learn a lot more about a guy that way and it'd be less obvious a "date" and more reason for him to say YES. Good luck!

a friend posted this on her last post before she jumped through a cut out wall in her new house and broke her toe. LOL

So if you are ready to take that leap I think next time you see him you should ask him if he wants to go to coffee or something. Of course you could always just keep unintentionally stalking him. Thats what I would do...

Totally go for a run together. All the modern "the girl's got to ask the guy" stuff is soooo 2008.

i like the run idea. the best lead in is, "i see you running, are you training for anything?" that gives him an opportunity to talk about himself a little bit. and, as vanilla will tell you, guys like to talk about themselves to impress the ladies.

good luck!

My wife made the moves on me and asked me out. Asking for a run is the best way to break the ice and get to know each other. Good luck.

Hilarious!! I think you should show up on his doorstep with your measuring cup and ask for some sugar :-)

hmm the neighbor, could be really good or really bad... I say if you never ask you'll never know...and that sucks

hells yeah ask him out. make it happen, captain!

Well, dating a neighbor could be situationally convenient; however, breaking up with said neighbor or getting denied in the first place could be situationally awkward.

Snap a picture of him so we can judge the risk more accurately!

Ask him for a run, then if he turns out to be a jerk you can "chick" him.

Totally ask him out! Go for it!

I vote with the 'ask him to go for a run in a short skirt' group. and then, if it's fun, maybe a drink later (after showering, of course) (not showering together, probably) (unless it's a REALLY good run)

Alisa said...

I concur with the Gazelle's and the rest of the group that votes for "ask him BUT wear a skimpy skirt."

Do IT!

Just found your blog - had to comment as I am often in the 'should I ask him out?' conundrum! I think the invite for a run is a fab idea!! And I am jealous that it is warm enough where you live to have the option of wearing a running skirt!

Go for it! Or just go in the fron and do some whack yoga poses that will get em'.

I had to go back and read the GC, I always wondered how that turned out. Yes that is the kinda shit I wonder about sometimes.

Thanks now I am going to like say dope like a few times this week.
