Pre-Race Freak Out

It's started.
The pre-race freakout.
I know you must thinking - "It's just a half marathon."
I KNOW - I am thinking the same thing.

But I am at a hotel all week and don't have much control over when and what I'll be eating. Or much control as to when I can get a couple runs in.

I planned to run this morning and Wed. And that is it before the race on Saturday.
But I had a dream last night that I was hospitalized for exhaustion. And when I woke up I was exhausted. So I slept an extra hour instead of running.

When I did wake up, I was having knee pains. What the heck?
I know this is "normal" but I'm still worried.
What if the hills just kick my ass?
What if my time is like 30 minutes slower than my last half?

Ok, calm down. Breath. Really, who cares if I'm slower because of the hills? It won't be the end of the world. It's good to challenge myself.

Now I'm off to find something semi healthy to eat for brekkie (And stay AWAY from the mini bar crap)!

You'll be fine. Just take a deep breath, step back, and know that you are prepared.

Best of luck.

You are going to do great, no worries. Your runs have been consistent and you have been keeping up with them while traveling, you are ready. Don't worry about the hills, just take them one at a time. And, if your knee is hurting, ice it!

I am trying hard to not get all worked up about my half on Saturday, but now you, a veteran, are also having nerves. ACK!

ACK! Wait, did I say that already?

I'm sure we'll both do wonderfully.

Relax the hay is in the barn. Final words of advice don't go out too fast, seriously, the first couple of miles are a bit of a roller coaster, just get into your stride and stay there, the long hill isn't that bad and remember there is a photographer at the top so smile. Just roll down the back of the hill and enjoy the scenery, once you go over the last hill and are back in Solvang the finish comes really fast so sprint it in!

It's totally normal to lose it the week before a race. They say there is no taper madness for half marathons, but I would beg to differ. Hang in there!

You will rock the course girlie. You will do great. Don't eat too much crap this week if you can help it though. No one likes digesive upset during a race!
