Cosmic Smackdown

Just when I'm feeling confident about my fitness - Marathon training is going very smoothly, Bikram is awesome - the Universe decides I need to humble myself and smacks me down.

Exhibit A - My running this week sucks. I can't get my mileage in, I'm slow and struggling. I have done no speed work and it takes all my strength to get out of bed.

Exhibit B - Yoga last night I had to sit down for the first time in a LONG time. And during Salabhasana I puked in my mouth. Luckily it was just water, but it was gross. I debated getting up and walking out. I've never walked out before. I decided to stay and tough it out.

I can see several reasons for this crappy week, but I don't want to use them as excuses.

  1. My diet is not great. I have not been eating bad, but I don't think I have eaten enough and it's been not my normal food choices. Basically I have had no time to go to the market, so I'm eating whatever is left in my pantry. Not planning, not good.
  2. T.O.M. is coming very soon.
  3. My armpit hurts. Which means my glands are swollen. Which means I think I'm fighting a cold or virus or something try to creep into my body.

What this all boils down to is that I am seriously freaked about my scheduled 20 miler this weekend. My 16 and 18 were great, so there is no reason for this insecurity. I need to just take it easy, get some healthy good food in me and just do it.

You will be fine. Everyone has a little set back here and there. Remember with the miles, you just need to get them in. They don't have to be perfect, slow it down if you have to, just get them in. :D (because I'm some expert) :D

Absolutely fine, get some nutritious grub and just do it! I am starting marathon training this coming Monday...the race is in Oct! Two months late.

I'm sorry you are having a crappy exercise week. Get some better food, and you will feel better. Man, I hope that virus doensn't get you.

Your armpit hurts when you're about to get sick? My ears get pressurized like on a plane when I'm about to get sick.

Hope you manage to avoid it.

like everyone else said - not too many worries.

take the time to take care of you (by taking it easy on yourself & buying your good food).

slow miles are better than no miles (says the girl who hasn't run in almost 4 weeks).

everyone has crap running days or weeks. EVERYONE. that just means you're human.

I am going to Bikram for the first time EVAH on 8/9, and now I am afraid that I will puke in my mouth.

You've already done one 20, right?

Hang in girl. Listen to your body and use your POM good sense to know when to fight through it and when to pull back until you feel better. No training plan can ever be followed perfectly - so I wouldn't worry about missing a run here or there, especially when you are puking in your mouth.

TOM brings every lady down. I put all blame on TOM ;-)

Don't beat yourself up! It is one bad week and you'll get back into it in no time. Hang in there and feel better!

You have the right attitude about it, and I'm sure you'll get it done. :)

Hang in there!! I blame TOM for sure!

Hang in there-- you've been ramping up your miles, which means your body is probably pretty tired. This will be a good thing at Portland, but right now it might suck. Even if you do get a cold or something, you still have plenty of time to get back on track. Be gentle with yourself-- because if you don't, who else is going to be?

Take care of yourself!! I hope that you feel better soon. The exercise will follow. :)

I've never known someone who knows they're getting sick by monitoring their armpits. Typically, for me, I get a sore throat first.

Anyway...try to relax, hydrate, eat right, sleep well, and you'll be golden for the weekend's 20 miler.

I'd back off the Bikram's and get a little rest. Sounds like over training to me. Take'er easy their sista.

Eh, I hate it when your body throws u a curve ball like that. Just when you think your on top of the world.

Hang in there, clean up the diet, and get some extra rest, and you'll be back in no time!

Hope you fight off whatever ails you and kick some LSD ass. Did we somehow create the same schedule? Cheers to 20 miles of solidarity!

My armpits do the same thing if I cut fresh foods out - toxins build up in the oddest ways. I just do this routine for a week and gets it right on track...

After Run: 1 grapefruit (or unsweetened g-fruit juice), 1 cup of green tea mixed with Emergen-C powder, plain unsweetened organic oatmeal with serving of craisins and walnuts

Snack: Apple w/almond butter

Lunch: Greens with random freshness on top

Snack: Carrots/Celery

Dinner: Brown rice with veg

Relatively low-allergen foods clear the PMS and the weak immune feelings right outta me. Good luck chica! You're gunna rock that 20 miler this week... and hopefully sweat out some of that crap in your system ;-).

you will get it back no doubt... everyone has off weeks (especially when TOM is close)... you will rock your 20 miler this weekend!

You are totally hardcore. I would have left that Bikram class as soon as I felt the bile rise.

I hear you on TOM. We are currently bitch slapping each other into submission. I think I'm losing. (TMI? You betcha!)

I'm pretty sure it's all about T.O.M. Just take it easy and don't eat anything deep fried until after the run :P

Look after yourself! I like Chia's ailment cure...might try it myself, I no longer TOM, but have been "blue" all week...

You Can switch up your schedule, it isn't written in blood so to speak, so take it easy and do what you can....take care!

wtf...took me a while before I figured out what 'TOM' was.

p.o.m. my friend i cannot really add too much after all of these amazing comments, except for the old standby:
listen to your body"...simple really! It will guide you, even tell you what to eat, what your craving, so to speak!!

You will be OK! Run slower if you have to! Really no big deal right???

Ok, i have to ask! What does t.o.m. stand for?? Sorry, i'm stupid that way!!
