Marathon Training: Phase III

I have now entered Phase III of Marathon Training.

Phase III = The Hungry Hungry Hippo Phase

It's easy to recognize the signs of Phase III.

Sign 1. You wake up hungry.
Sign 2. You eat. A lot. And are still hungry.
Sign 3. You eat more. Still hungry.
Sign 4. You kick your diet to the curb and get a corn dog AND Mexican food.
Sign 5. You go to bed hungry.

I hate that stage!

Sadly, that sounds like me on a normal day.

I fear marathon training.

Yeah, although I haven't done a marathon, I hear about that phase a lot. Hang in there, you'll be fine. You're so tiny anyway and your metabolism is amazing.

See, I'm hungry all the time and I'm not training for a full. :-)

POM, you seriously crack me up! The Hungry Phase is the worst. I wonder how many people actually gain when they are training for marathons?

Corn dog and mexican food. Love it!

even though i'm not training for a full, but instead a 30k, i'm at that stage too :(

I love your song of the day btw.

I eat like that even when I'm not training for a marathon!

Now, I want to play hungry, hungry hippos!

I spend most of my life in this phase. Given that eating is oh, say, one of my top 3 favorite past-times EVER, running a LOT or swimming or doing some kind of excessive calorie-burning activity is a big necessity. I actually love the hungry phase though, because there's nothing more annoying than eating when I'm not really hungry. Food doesn't taste as good. Nice job on the 18 miler.

More running, need more fuel! Yeah. Whenever I'm training for a marathon I just eat when hungry and I never gained weight. I guess its hard for you since you gained weight last time. Maybe just listen to your body and eat moderately. I want some mexican food, that sounds good.

Egads! That's my problem. I'm perpetually in Phase III of marathon training!

*sigh* It happens to me, too. Today we went out for Mexican for lunch and somehow I ended up with a churro for dessert!

Man, that pic of the game took me back to the days. I broke the heck outta my lil friends game and my Mom made me save my money and buy her another one. The lil bitch was cheating though.

I think I am banned forever to phase III- LOL. And BTW sorry I didn't read your post about the horse race more carefully. I must have RDD (reading deficit disorder), because I kept looking for the race report until I went back and re-read the post.

That dude in the fat pic I just posted yesterday once came up behind me when I was bent over getting his clothes out of the bottom of the laundry hamper and started smacking my butt going "HUNGRAAAY HUNGRAAY HIPPO"

Dude, scarred for life.

I hear ya. My diet went straight to the shitter in the last week. It's time for a nuitrition overhaul. BOOOO mexican/chinese/indian food. BOOO! Damn them all for being so tasty.

Phase III ends up being "It seemed like a good idea at the time" or, "but I was soooooo hungry".

I felt it coming on when I ate a ridiculous amount of pasta on Saturday. It's like you just can't stop.

Boooo.

This is also known as the phase that when you run, you think about what you are going to eat when you get home. That's pretty much the only thing that goes through my head now during runs.

I can never get food fast enough during this stage. And I'm a mean SOB when I'm hungry. Good luck.

I do not like that phase at all!!! I notice it when I kick up my biking. Imagine what is going to happen when I am riding 50 miles. *GULP*

Alisa said...

Yup...that's why I gained a lovely 5 lbs during the taper period...whoops! My poor knees, as if they needed more pressure pounding on them for 26.2 miles.
