Insatiable

Part of the Ze Plan was to have Cerebral Caloric Intake. As I have mentioned about 47 times on this blog, I gained like 12 lbs last year while training for the marathon. You might have noticed on the side bar that I'm up 2 lbs this week. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it's a slippery slope for me. I know how fast I can gain and how easily the girl and the band can slip through my fingers (that's a song).

Most people ask why? Why POM would you be gaining weight when you're running so much and doing yoga 3-4 times a week?

I'll tell you why.
BECAUSE I AM CONSTANTLY HUNGRY.
I want to stuff my face every second. And I'll even take off my damn Invisalign to do so.

Monday, I made my famous little pita pizza for dinner. I made an extra one to take for lunch the next day. While watching TV later that evening (around 8:30 pm) I decided I needed to eat the 2nd pizza right then and there.

Yesterday, I had 3 brownies. Some bitch brought them into the office.

This morning, somehow a Lemon Tart ended up on my desk.

I'm not really seeking advice on what to do. I've talked with a nutritionist, I KNOW what to do. I'm just freakin' hungry and want to bitch about it.

GOAL FOR TODAY: OPERATION HYDRATION
I am going to drink 100 oz of water today. I'm about 25% to my goal already.

I am supposed to get a 16 miler in this weekend. I'm not sure which day it will fit into yet, as my weekend plans are STILL up in the air (which you know I hate since I'm a planner).

HAPPY FOURTH & HAPPY RUNNING!

I am not necessarily hungry all the time, but I give in all the time! I am so brutal for having NO willpower. I hate people who bring treats!! Although - I have done it to others when I want to get stuff out of my house to keep myself from eating it.

I feel the same way - I'm hungry all the time too. I have been keeping fruit in the office to snack on...and I'm trying to drink lots of water. Today we had a 3 layer caramel cake in the office...hard to hold back!!

Have a great 4th!

Happy Fourth to you, too.

Sorry about the hunger. That sucks.

I don't know what time of day you do yoga but the day I went at 6 am I was HUNGRY all freaking day long!!!! You can burn a TON of calories in there!!

I have a hunch you're not going to slide down this slippery slope Miss POM.

Hope you come up with some shenanigans for this weekend... we'll all want to hear about it come Monday! =)

I think it's great that you are even more planning obsessed than I am. Ha. That makes me laugh.

If you know you're really hungry (and if you're really upping your exercise, you're going to be), then make sure you are always surrounded by food that is "good for you"-- i.e. carrots, energy bars (although they get old fast, in my opinion), but stuff that will be decent food and not sugary calories, I find it's easier (for me at least). If you expend a ton of calories (and 16 milers will do that), you're going to be hungry. Eat.

You still look hot!

(To combat hunger, eating a lot more protein works for me.)

I"m always hungry too, no matter how much protein I eat. I know it's supposed to digest slower and all that, but it doesn't. Or at least it doesn't seem to. Oh the frustrations.

Endurance training makes you feel starved all the freaking time. I am the same way, food goes right thru me, I need to eat every 2 hours. Eat things with fiber, makes you feel full. Stay away from the sugar and allow yourself one day to eat some sweets. You know what to do woman!

I am not training for a marathon and I don't do yoga ANY times per week but I am ALWAYS hungry! What's my excuse? HAHA! Happy 4th.

i am hungry all the time too. it's the running. either i am starving or gaining weight - there is no middle ground! actually if i go to sleep slightly hungry during the week i know i'm alright.

I hear ya- during my boot camp I got so hungry that I gained 3 lbs. And I'm the type of person whose weight won't even budge during TOM. Food just tastes so darn good.

I feel your pain.

Have a happy 4th!

happy 4th back atcha.
I LOVE THIS LINE:
I'm just freakin' hungry and want to bitch about it.

so many times clients would (have to) say that to me as Id immediately go into brainstorming mode.

Hungry all the time.. pretty much a chapter title in my life story! hahaha! Good luck with that and your 16-miler this weekend.

Have a great 4th of July weekend!

Yep, I'm also hungry all the time. In addition, I tend to overstuff myself at least every other meal. I just love food too much for my own good. :( You're doing great though! When you're hungry, keep going for the healthy snacks.

Happy 4th! :)

Bitching is known metabolic aggressor - let it all out POM ;-).

If it's not burning the weight off... bitch louder.

If that still doesn't work, buy a paintball gun and peck off skinny tourists that annoy you.

Know we're talkin'.

Have a great 4th :-)

AMEN!!! Ohhhh girl I'll be right there with you! I'm probably already THERE with you (weight gain wise) but I'm scared to step on the scale :-X

Brownies. Yum. Yeah, my willpower is...well, non existent.

Vegetables! If you're hungry, learn to love 'em. I puree them with some water, ice cubes and honey to make a nice cold treat (it's friggin hot here). Fills you up b/c of all the water, and it's super yummmy! (I do it with cucumbers and carrots and broccoli mostly, or fruit if I'm feeling fancy.)

It sounds wierd, but I promise it's good. :)

Good luck....!

I can barely get in 64 oz of water..I think I'd have to swallow some pool water while swimming to reach 100 oz.

Today was my bad food day..brownies and cake batter ice cream. Damn it!

Alisa said...

Dang, 100oz of water, you must have to pee like every 2 sec. I try to drink 64oz and my co-workers laugh at how much I pee.

I too, gained weight while marathon training and was hungry all the time! (Still am =)).

Have a great 4th!

Oooooh and I'm going to be invisaligning right along with you in about 4-5 weeks.

"yesterday, I had 3 brownies. Some bitch brought them into the office."

love it! too funny! Thats ok...we made cupcakes and my husband noticed a bunch were gone...he asked if I had given some to my friend..I said "yep" without hesitation. I can't own up to 3 cupcakes in one day...GOD NO!

Ugh! I've gained weight training for both of my previous marathons.

I'm hoping to lose weight during my marathon training this time around. I've seen it done, so I know it's possible.

Good luck, and have a great 4th!

You may need to also consider that with all the additional exercise, some part of the gains may be from muscle. So, go by your measurements instead of your scale; that may be more accurate.

Viv said...

Bitch away baby and ditto it for me.

Hope you get a great long run this weekend. Have fun this weekend!!

I've felt the hungry thing going on often. Sometimes I have wondered if it is from all of the activity.
What is your calorie intake? I mean, your body knows when you are hungry so is it your body telling you to eat or your head? I find it is a constant battle and try to listen to my body! The water is a good idea!! Lots of going peepee though!!! Good luck on the run and enjoy your weekend!

I thought I was the only person that gained the more I run. I think I overdo the "fueling". I have yet to find the right balance where I am fueling the run enough to get through it decently but not overdoing it. Good luck. You don't need advice, just do it. :D

I gained to when I trained for the May marathon. The hardest excersie I ever had to do was "push away" from the table....

You can do it!!!

Leenie said...

I know you know what to do, but make sure you are getting enough protein. That will definitely help oat your hunger and keep you fuller longer.

A great snack: 1/2 c. oatmeal, 1 scoop Lean Dessert Whipped Vanilla Protein powder and some water. Mix it up to a batter like consistency, then place in a skillet over low heat, about 6 min per side. They are called protein pancakes, they are nummy, and they'll help curbn the hunger between meals.

Hope your 16 miler went well this weeeknd.

Hey POM, thanks for my very first comment! :-)

I also gained weight last year while training for Marine Corps...so the last month I counted WW points. I used all the flex points and activity points every week, but the counting kept me accountable. (Clif bars are one of my favorite "snacks," only three points and very filling)

RunnerGirl said...

Yep, I gained weight as well during marathon training. I felt healthy though, so I'm thinking it was mostly muscle (that's what I tell myself anyway!)

You know what sucks most about you living in the land of sun and surf? I'm all the way over in the freakin' midwest, so when I get to work and need some amusement in the a.m., you're either still in bed or running.

Seriously, POM, think of your audience. You should start blogging by at least 5 am so I have something to read when I get to work...

In other news, I think I'm getting v. close to a nickname for new guy. Unforch, most won't make it to the blog as they're way tooooo "personal". LOL. Where's that 'boy talk' forum?!

P.S. Drink your water.
