Bathing Suit Season?

I know you must be thinking, "POM - you're crazy - it's only January!"

Yes my peeps, I am crazy - that's not in question. HOWEVAH>>> I have 3 trips in the next few months that will require bathing suits. This got me thinking... and I can't BELIEVE I am going to do this, but maybe it will be motivational to me (and hopefully some of you, too).

So here we go. Bathing Suit Pics. SCARY!!!!! Not for the faint at heart. WARNING!

The first pic is me in 2005 - weighing in at 168 lbs. After I saw these pictures, I knew something had to change. Of course it wasn't until winter that year (and my 30th bday) that I finally made some changes. Besides my big ol' tummy and thunder thighs, my FACE was so fat! ICK.

Fast forward to Summer of 2006 - 7 months of eating healthy and a couple months of running. I had dropped to 134 (my current lowest weight ever). I went on a trip to Hawaii, where this pic was taken.

NOW - here is where I'm at - Stuck at about 139. Only 5 lbs difference but it's all in the belly. I have not changed my exercise routine BUT I was eating and drinking more. For me- weight loss is all about food/drink.

I have less than a month before heading back to Hawaii. I would love to get back to where I was in 2006 and I know what I need to do. So let's do this thing! And yes, I am wearing the same suit so I really I do need to go bathing suit shopping. That's worse than jeans shopping. Eek Gads!

I was at Target this weekend and saw the bathing suits were out already. All I could think was, SHIT.
You've got a month to get where you want to be, I know you can do it!

Your 2006 pic is awesome! And you can totally get there again, you did it once, you know the way, and you know what makes a difference for your body.

I bought my first "bikini" last year, as opposed to my previous years "tankinis" and omg was I self conscious. Wearing bikinis takes balls... not literally of course.

Freaking awesome! You ARE crazy, but I hope it's motivating!

Girl, you can so totally get there. 5 lbs doesn't seem like a lot unless it's on an already tiny body like yours. And then it is tough to get off but easy for you to spot. If it's any consolation, probably no one but you can tell the difference in the 5 pounds from one pic to the other. Reclining on a lounger is not the most flattering position to be in, so if you'd had an identical pose to the one in Hawaii, I bet you'd look just as fabulous. Hell, you DO look just as fabulous!

Hope you find a hot little suit--you'll have to post a new pic when you get it.

I love that polka-dot bikini... and you look fantastic. Laura is right, only you can see the 5 lb difference!

Hawaii??? Again??? Shit, I'm still waiting for my FIRST trip!! LOL

I know that you can dig deep and find the strength you need to get down to what you want before the trip. It might mean sacraficing those beautiful glasses of wine for a while. :(

Just the other night I was looking at vacation photos from past years. The 2005 snap shoot should cut abs.... so where have they gone I ask???? Maybe those beers would know.

First off, I really *heart* that brown polka dot suit. It's cute.

But secondly, I'm pretty sure this post deserves some kind of "honesty in blogging" award or "bravery in blogging" (maybe that second one is better) because I can't imagine how much courage it took to post yourself in a bikini.

And, I suspect this will certainly increase readership -- it will just be the awkward teenage boy kind. Still. Readers are readers.

Good luck with your weight loss endeavor! But, I think you look fab the way you are :)

Okay, you really are crazy....

I was running behind a woman on Sunday, who I swear was wearing a JCrew swimsuit bottom - the one with the rushed sides, you know it? Nutso.

You are one brave, brave girl, but I agree with the rest - those five pounds are only visible to you. You already look fantastic, but I know how it feels to have issues and issues are not something you want to be thinking about in a bikini :X

Crap, now I really have to start doing better.

Crystal meth and exlax should get you to a new all time lowest in a jiffy! Other than that, I've had success with pre-filling with a big glass of water before I indulge in whatever I'm craving. By the time I'm shoveling food down my gullet, my tummy is already telling me there's something in there.

Aren't painted-on suits the new "thing"? That's what I usually wear. Embarrassing when it starts to wear off in jail, though.

First of all, you look great, but if you want to get back to that '06 photo, you can totally do it!!! Drink more h20 like David said - it tricks your stomach into feeling super full.
I had to buy a suit this week b/c I'm heading to FL with my husband next weekend. Totally f-ing scary. And don't get me started on the shade of white I am...shiver.

You are a brave soul for posting bathing suit photos!

I won't tell you that you look great (even though you do). I know that it is all for you, and it makes a big difference in how you feel, even if it is only 5 lbs that nobody else notices.

It drives me crazy when people tell me that they can't tell I've gained weight, when I feel like I am bursting out of my clothes!

Ali said...

you are the bravest girl I know.

You look awesome!

You can totally lose 5 lbs if you put your mind to it.

You look awesome!

(Although I know what you mean, when you're so close to your goal, 5 pounds feels like a lot more than it is... make sense?)

Laurel said...

Dood, seriously, you deserve a medal for this shit. I don't think I could ever do it.

You do look amazing in the 2006 pic. That stomach is bangin!

I think you look great in the current pic too. You are so close you can totally lose 5 more lbs.

I lost 5lbs before the last marathon by just giving up beer for 2 weeks. Sigh. Of course now they are back since I figured, no training - I deserve BEER (and wine) ;)

Holy crap! You're a chick??

Am I crazy? I think you look awesome and healthy in that turquoise bikini shot up top!
(That's not to imply that you don't look super hot in the ones below too!)

But, as someone who is absolutely their own worst critic, I can understand how 5 lbs makes you feel that you aren't ready for bikini season.

5 is a lot when you're already small. I dunno... don't do anything too crazy... You're a babe, and I'm sure a certain Captain would agree.

What courage you have! Even if you don't drop the last 5, you still look great and hey you'll be in Hawaii!

Erin said...

You looks so ripped in Hawaii! Really, you are not far from being there again at all!

I agree, for me weight loss is all about what I eat....

Nancy said...

I KNOW you are doing this to taunt me into publishing the before pic, well nice try. You are so funny. You look way better at 168 than I did 2 weeks ago at 160, um, it's my proportions.... ICK. So far, my secret is to keep the before pic in front of me most of the time so I don't start deluding myself even for 1 sec that I look okay. ( I also took it in a bikini from oh circa 10 years ago!!) Good luck, you can do it. You will feel great and you will love the pics!!

You look great in all the pictures, and it's inspiring that you can get your stomach that small, like in the Hawaii pic.

What is awesome is that you have a photo of YOURSELF from not too long ago to give yourself as a goal. Too many of us have a photo of someone else that is our goal...and we can't do it. But you can TOTALLY do this. :)

You look great! Whatever you don't think you have in swimsuit beauty, you definitely make up in bravery. Just smile and wave.

I don't think I could have posted my pics. But, I didn't think I could post my weight either...and that was really motivating.

Here comes the annoying, "But you look great now!" comment. HA! In all honesty, I'm looking at you thinking, If I looked like that in a bikini, I'd wear one ALL THE TIME! LOL!

BUT I also know exactly what you're talking about when you say, you're feeling those five, Buddha pounds. I'm positive with a little hard work and less booze you'll get back to 'Hawaii 2006' in no time!

P.S. BTW I'm uber-jealous you're headed to Hawaii!

First off: I've sooo missed reading your blog. Just caught up and I gotta say I'm sooo jealous of the Garmin. I've got to get a new one, my old 201 died on me and I'm using hubbys. And the tanita - I love mine, although you have the latest one. Mine didn't have a few of the things you put down, but it does show bodyfat, which mine sucks.

As far as the weightloss thought process goes - healthy eating, craving healthy foods. I'm starting to get it mentally and I so get it. I wont' loose weight until my mind is there, and I think of the consequences.

The swimsuits! Crap - gotta start thinking of that now. I'm NOT ready. But, I gotta tell you I agree with the others - you are brave and I don't think you have any issues. You look fantastic!!! You will get those last few lbs off. Looks like you have your mind on it and it will workout!!!

You totally rock!! You are much braver then I am to put those up! Ah heck, who am I fooling? I might do it someday too. You look fantastic! Keep up the great work!

Hawaii. shaddup!
Seriously, you can do it - and the Bag Lady is freakin' green with envy!

OMG you are so brave!! I think you look fab even with the 5lbs ;-)

David had an awesome suggestion with the water or even try a handful of almonds before you go out to eat at a restaurant or going to a par-tay. Within 30 minutes you won't be so hungry. Something about the fats in the nuts tricking your body into thinking it's full.

Bev said...

You see how the number of comments jump when you post a swimsuit picture. Very interesting.

You really are looking good. Hey just cut the salt and you should have that five pounds in no time.

someone is quite the hottie ;-)

I have to agree with the others that even when you weighed more than you wanted, you carried it really well -- at least in those photos. Even in the most recent picture, you look purdy dern good in that polka dot bikini. You're very inspirational, even if the last time I went outdoors in a two-piece was during the Reagan Administration.
